Break the boards blocking your way and kill the Headcrabs. Then
kill the Bullsquid. A Zombie will break the door by the lift control
switch. Activate the lift and go down to a small section of transit
system. Kill the enemies around if you want, but most you can just
get past quickly using the tram. Board the tram and go. Get ready to
jump off when you get to the barrier, otherwise you'll go flying
into some nuclear waste stuff. Kill the Bullsquid and make your way
around to a ladder, climb it and enter the pipe. At the end kill the
Bullsquid, and jump over to another pipe, kill another Bullsquid,
then jump down into the short corridor. |

Collect the ammo then go through to a big room with a lift and
two Bullsquids. Kill them and walk over the pipes to the lift. At
the top follow the corridor to a very big area with a circular
section in the middle. That is Silo D, home to three Tentacles. Kill
the Bullsquid that is to your left when you enter and kill the
Houndeyes that come for you. Walk round the side and kill the
Houndeye on the bridge ahead. Don't worry if you accidentally blow
the bridge up, you can still jump across. Kill the Headcrabs then
enter the door. |

Pull the lever, and kill the zombie when the door opens. Listen
to the scientists last words and kill the Barnacle. Get ready to
watch a scientist get eaten alive. Kill the Barnacle and climb the
ladder. Listen to the wise words of the security guard but ignore
the impression the other guard gives. Collect the grenades. |

What you need to do here (see picture) is make your way down two
levels, passing the three tentacles. The way to do this is to
distract the Tentacles with grenades and crawl your way down.
Quick-save the game (normally F7). The following may take a few
attempts. Firstly, throw a grenade down to a lower level,
distracting them, then crawl to the first ladder and go down,
continuing to crawl. At the bottom of the ladder, you may need to
distract the Tentacles again (another grenade). While they are
distracted, shoot the two boxes blocking your access to the next
ladder. Distract the Tentacles again, then crawl round to the next
ladder. Go half-way down this ladder, then quick-save the game.
Distract the Tentacles again, then crawl round and break the boards
blocking the door and get through it as quickly as possible. |

Walk round to the next door and open it. Kill the Zombie then
cross the bridge and break the boxes (well, the non-explosive ones
at least). Walk along the next corridor and turn right (ignore the
Fuel room door - it's locked). Jump down and kill the Zombies next
to the ladder. Break the vent blocking the ladder and climb down.
Follow the pipes and turn left at the junction. Climb up the ladder,
break the vent and kill the Zombie. Climb out and walk round and
collect the grenades from the little room to the left. |

Open the door and kill the two Zombies. You'll find yourself in
another silo with a big fan (see picture). The next part is tricky.
Make your way down the ladders to a switch. Quick-save your game.
What you have to do here is press the switch, turn around, and climb
the ladder as quickly as possible. This may take a few attempts, but
you should do it in the end. Once you have, jump into the wind and
fly baby fly! At the top of the silo, break the boards then the vent
and kill the Headcrabs. |

Follow the shaft and kill the Headcrabs as you go, until you
come to your second vent. Break through it and jump down. Watch out
for a Headcrab and three Zombies in the next room. Press the two
buttons marked "Oxy On" and "Fuel On" (see picture). Climb the next
ladder. |

Go through the door and turn right (look familiar?). Make your
way down the corridor back to Silo D. Congratulations! You've
completed part 1! Save your game!

Re-enter Silo D and get ready to have to get passed
the Tentacles again. But this will be even harder, so you're going
to have to take a different approach. I found that chucking a
grenade down first, then crawling round and climbing a little way
down the ladder was a good way to do it. If you stay crouched and
only go down a little way, the Tentacles can't get you - you can
shoot the boards blocking the next door without being killed. Once
you've destroyed all the boards chuck a grenade up the ladder on to
the level above, then run for it. |

Once you've got passed them, follow the red line
round to a gap in the floor, jump across this, then walk through the
two open doors. Watch out for some falling rubble here, which will
break another hole in the floor. Kill the Zombie, then leave through
the door. |

Make your way round to a button at the end of a
little catwalk. Watch out for some Barnacles and a Bullsquid. Press
the button to call the lift. Do not actually use the lift though (it
crashes half-way down). Jump out of the side of the lift onto a
ladder and climb down to the bottom. Talk to the scientist and use
the First-Aid unit behind you (if you need health), then continue
down the corridor. Get past the hazardous liquid best you can. |

Get onto the lift-sort-of-thing and press the button
to go round to a ladder. At the top of this ladder make your way
round to one of the other ladders, making sure you don't get knocked
down by the aimlessly moving platform. Press the button at the top,
then jump on top of the machine and listen to the scientist. Jump
off the other side of the machine, press the switch, and climb down
the ladder. Walk round to the first ladder, avoiding the aimlessly
moving platform. Get back to the entrance. |

You should be able to climb on top of the pipe from
this side, so you can avoid the hazardous liquid. Go back round and
climb the big ladder right to the top. Get onto the platform and
jump from there onto the top of the lift - you will probably lose
heath, but there is a First-Aid unit behind some crates. Jump down
from the lift. You then need to use the crates to create a bridge to
bypass some electrified water further along the corridor. Try and
make a bridge as far over the water as possible, then jump the
remainder of the way. Run back to Silo D. |

Go through the air-lock and make your way back to
the Tentacle-Chamber. Quick-save your game. To get back up to the
top, move silently up the first ladder and then slowly make your way
up by distracting the Tentacles with more Grenades (if you've ran
out then you're in trouble!) remembering to keep crouched. |

When you've got all the way to the top, return to
the control room. Press the Test Fire Button and stand well back.
Watch the Tentacles fry (See Picture). |

Return to the main chamber and climb all the way
down to the bottom. You'll notice a hole where the Tentacles used to
be. Climb down the ladder there. Then slowly make your way down the
hole until you end up in some water. Climb back out and pick up the
Magnum. Jump back in the water and swim all the way to the bottom
then climb out towards one side. |

Climb down the ladder and use the First-Aid and
H.E.V. units, then return up the ladder. Jump onto the pipe and work
your way along. When you come to what seems to be a dead end, you
will find another pipe to the right. When you come to a very large
pipe, turn the valve to extend it, Climb into the pipe and walk
along it until you come to a green section, where the pipe will
break, so brace yourself for a drop. |

In the room, break all the boxes and you'll uncover
some Trip Mines and some Health Packs. Then continue down the
corridor.
Congratulations! You've completed the level! Save your game!
